An Unexpected Call from the Police

A rare chance to ride Shotgun in the new police 'Pride' car

I must admit that of all the organisations to get in touch, I didn't expect a call from the Suffolk Police Constabulary one grey Wednesday in autumn 2016. After nearly drowning in my coffee it came to light that they actually wanted some help with their new beat car, it was something really special because it had been fitted out with the newest design of LGBT Pride colours.

It was important however that the car shouldn't be some showpiece, this will be a working beat car taking care of the community just like its peers on the force.

Here in Suffolk we share this particular car with the Norfolk constabulary. They have their own set of photos so it was important to capture images of the car in and around Ipswich.

It was an awesome day! I had a couple of off-beat officers and civilian controllers working with me to tour and bring out the lovely colours on the car. (I even got to ride up front! Something I never realised I had always wanted to do). Wherever we went we drew a small crowd of interested passers by including a few officers who hadn't seen this yet!

In the end we got the Job done, and over coffee afterwards came up with another dozen or so ideas for next time around. It was really nice to see how proud and exited the force was with their new vehicle, I was thrilled to work with them and proud to be part of the project.

After It does a tour of the country and various events the car will be back and around the town. Keep an eye out!
