Hush! Anti bullying project.
Hello and welcome to the HUSH project.
I started this project to highlight some of the issues affecting us today. It was aimed at highlighting the effects that language can have, effects often not fully known to the people using it. Either used as banter among friends or deliberately used to cause damage by bullies, words can hurt! We don't always admit to the damage that's caused, but it is often there. After hearing the stories from the people who stepped forward to take part with us, I hope that we can all take something away and perhaps be a little more careful about what we say to each other.
This has been a long labour of love for us here at Suttenwood Photography and we like to think it has matured well as time has gone on. Please feel free to contact us with your thoughts and feedback from what you see, we would love to know what you think!
Hush Compilation
Firstly the models were asked to pick a word that had been used against them in the past. For some this simply meant picking something they thought was powerful or they wouldn't much like being called, for others this word brought back painful memories of bullies or insecurities they still carry around to this day.
This brought out a lot of emotion from some of our models. We heard stories of online bullying, childhood bullies and even friends using these words. We heard of the effects some of them had caused and the insecurities that grew from them.
Next we decided to have some fun with the project, some of the models had great ideas for poses and props to bring their chosen words to life.
Finally, for the last set of photos most of the models chose a separate word. The purpose of this section was to highlight the fact that a lot of the time, the most harm can come from ourselves. The way we see ourselves in the mirror can affect the way we lead our lives, the choices we make and in turn, the way others see us.
The way we see ourselves often differs greatly from what the outside world sees, but even without cause these labels we give ourselves can be by far the most damaging.
And that's it! Thank you for reading this post and for looking through the images we created. I would love to hear your thoughts on these so please comment down below. Also feel free to hit share and tell your friends about this.
